What is Launceston Community Larder?

Launceston Community Larder launched in May 2022 and runs every Wednesday 1030am-1130am. The aim is to tackle food waste and give local people access to good nutritious food that would otherwise be thrown away. This helps to reduce our impact on the environment and save money. The larder is held at Launceston Central Methodist Church in the Dingley Hall. The church is on Castle Street in the centre of Launceston.

What type of food will be available?

The food available each week will differ according to what we’re able to collect. Initially the larder will be offering dried, ambient food so items such as bread, pastries, fruit and veg, tins packets and jars. It makes no sense to throw away perfectly good food when it can still be used to make delicious meals and snacks, even if the Best Before date has expired.

Where does the food come from?

We are signed up with Caboodle, FareShare and Neighbourly to receive food from local supermarkets:

https://fareshare.org.uk/

https://www.neighbourly.com/

We also work with the gleaning network to receive surplus farm produce:

Who is it for and how much does it cost?

The food available at the community larder is free to everyone. If you would like to make a donation to show your support, we would be very grateful, but this is not essential. We use any donations to help us fund the running costs of the larder
