What is Launceston Community Larder?
Launceston Community Larder launches on Thursday 12th May 2022 2pm-4pm at The Orchard Centre, Blind Hole, Market Street, Launceston PL15 8AU and will run every Thursday from then. The aim is to tackle food waste and give local people access to good nutritious food that would otherwise be thrown away. This helps to reduce our impact on the environment and save money.
What type of food will be available?
The food available each week will differ according to what we’re able to collect. Initially the larder will be offering dried, ambient food so items such as bread, pastries, fruit and veg, tins packets and jars. It makes no sense to throw away perfectly good food when it can still be used to make delicious meals and snacks, even if the Best Before date has expired.
Where does the food come from?
We have been guided during our set up by the Treverbyn Community Trust (TCT). TCT has been involved in supporting numerous community larders throughout Cornwall. We will be picking up food from their warehouse on a weekly basis. They have a large network of organisations and businesses that donate food that would otherwise go to waste, including the gleaning network:
Who is it for and how much does it cost?
The food available at the community larder is free to everyone. If you would like to make a donation to show your support, we would be very grateful, but this is not essential. We use any donations to help us fund the running costs of the larder
