Who We Are
Set in a lovely calm environment with fully qualified and very experienced SEN and behavioural management staff, The Outdoor Place is a wonderful space for our young adults to explore and learn whilst having the space they need to be ‘them’. The education programme is run over 3 days per week for 36 weeks. We also provide an all year round adventure programme including residential courses and expeditions as an AAP for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
What We Do
The Outdoor Place works with the local community providing an outdoor space for all to learn and explore (inclusive of those with SEN, learning difficulties, autism and disadvantaged backgrounds). Watching their self-confidence and personal tolerance levels improve is a most rewarding experience for all. Through the various challenges and adventures, we can help our learners discover themselves and better understand others, whilst learning new skills.
The Outdoor Place CIC is an alternative education centre for young adults with Autism looking at voluntary or paid work in the future. We setup the ‘bespoke education programme’ in 2021, where we work with small cohorts of up to 5 young adults and provide a work experience project based around the needs, ambitions and requirements of the young adults.
We offer an outdoor provision for the young adults to gain experience and qualifications in a ‘classroom without walls’.
Our 16-18 Provision
For learners who are 16-18 years old, or over 18 and have an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), we offer a full time study programme which comprises 3 elements:
Core Qualifications
- The awarding body is OCN London
- Qualifications and units are selected for each young adult
Functional Skills Maths & English
- The awarding body is NCFE
Work Experience & Enrichment
- Work experience placement
- Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is offered at all levels and the young adults, including expeditions and residential courses for Gold Award
- Volunteering and a range of sports activities
Additional Information
All learners, as a part of their study programme, undertake enrichment activities, developing life skills and building confidence.
Courses are taught in small groups with the emphasis on learning practical skills and individual development.
There are no entry requirements for any of the courses, although a keenness to be outdoors, whatever the weather would be beneficial. We are always happy to arrange a visit and a chat with the team and discuss all available options.
