International Students’ Day 2026
Happy International Students’ Day 2026!
International Students’ Day is celebrated on 17th November every year. This day recognises both the positives, and the challenges, of being a student around the world. It was originally celebrated on this day to remember the 1939 Nazi storming of Czech universities and the execution and arrest of student leaders, but it has since evolved into a broader recognition of students’ rights, education, and the role they play in the development of our societies.
Today, International Students’ Day highlights the challenges faced by students, including access to (quality) education, mental health pressures, and the financial challenges of higher education. It also celebrates diversity, and the importance of cross-cultural understanding and collaboration in education.
In line with one of the focusses of International Students’ Day, mental health, we would like to remind the Launceston community, and the surrounding area, that we are now able to offer free counselling for young people aged 16-18, through our counselling agency, Castle and Coast Therapies. This service is available thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. We are able to offer counselling face to face and online.
If you are a young person, or you know a young person who could benefit from counselling, get in touch:
