Learners Build Confidence with Travel Training
Our Step Into Skills learners recently took part in practical travel training designed to help them develop confidence using public transport. As part of the session, learners were given money to board a local bus and guided through the process of following the bus stops and route.
While some learners initially felt more confident than others, the experience quickly helped everyone grow more comfortable. By the return journey, all learners showed greater confidence and a clearer understanding of how to track stops and navigate the route independently.
Alongside the travel training, learners also took on a budgeting challenge in preparation for Mother’s Day. Each learner was given a virtual budget and asked to choose a present for their Mum. They recorded the prices of potential gifts and photographed their selections as part of the activity.
Although the budget was not real, the exercise encouraged learners to think carefully about value and choice. It also provided an opportunity to practise recording information and reflecting on their decisions.
The combined activities helped learners develop practical life skills, from navigating public transport to managing a budget—while also adding a thoughtful Mother’s Day theme to the learning experience.
