Launceston Community Larder along with the Love your neighbour project receive great reviews!

by | Sep 21, 2023

The Launceston Community Larder moved to new premises in March and is now run from the Dingley Hall at the Central Methodist Church, Castle Street, Launceston PL15 8BA  every Wednesday from 10am-12pm.

Mike Carpenter and the Central Methodist Church team also run the ‘Love your neighbour’ project every Friday afernoon and Saturnday morning and have been a great support in helping to offer a greater variety of food.

Back in August Mike invited guests to answer the following question in order to gain some feedback- ‘In a sentence what does the community larder / love your neighbour mean to you.’ These are the anonymised responses:

It’s a break from home and gives me a purpose every week (volunteer)

I like the thought that people can come and have a chat and take food with no pressure where they might not see people (volunteer)

It’s something to do. My first job out of home. It’s nice to do a job without being judged (volunteer)

I’m a home carer and it’s a lifeline to me both for food and company

It’s done lots for me … taken me out of a rut

It’s community spirit, a confidence booster. It’s also a chance to help friends out who can’t get in because their mental state is worse than mine

It means a lot to me as I lost my partner recently… a chance to get food and meet people

When my husband doesn’t get work we don’t get food and we don’t eat so it’s a lifeline and the chance to socialise and make friends

It’s company… friends, food and fellowship – I live on my own

It means a lot to me, it provides an important saving and community

Ultimately it means survival … a reason to get out of the house and see some people

It’s a lifesaver for me ..l didn’t want to be eating out of tins and it means I can get some healthy seasonal produce

I was told I need to have a healthy diet but it’s so expensive and I can get stuff here

There is always someone here who has been through it before

Several of us suffer from social anxiety and it’s nice to stop by and talk

I’ve noticed that one or two who used to pick up and leave are now stopping for a chat

It’s nice to come here and not be judged
