Visit to Cornwall Scrapstore

by | Mar 5, 2026

Our Step Into Skills learners recently enjoyed a visit to the Cornwall Scrapstore to gather materials for their upcoming product-making project. The trip was both interesting and productive, with many learners discovering a variety of items they can use to help bring their ideas to life.

Cornwall Scrapstore is a charity-run organisation that collects donated materials from local companies—often items that are end-of-line or no longer needed. Members can visit and choose from a wide range of resources that would otherwise go to waste, making it a fantastic place to find inspiration for creative and sustainable projects.

The visit was quite an eye-opener for our group. The Scrapstore is based in a simple shed, complete with a few holes in the roof, so it was a little cold and damp during our trip! However, that didn’t stop our learners from exploring and finding useful materials. It was inspiring to see how many possibilities could come from items that might otherwise have been thrown away.

Many schools and colleges use the Scrapstore as a resource for creative learning, and it was great for our learners to experience it for themselves.

The group has been researching and planning a product of their choice, and next week they will begin building their creations using the materials they collected. Because each learner has chosen a different idea, every product will be unique.

We’re looking forward to seeing how their designs develop and can’t wait to see the finished results! 🎨✨
